Four MIDI Tools for Live 12. They sit in the Generate and Transform tabs under a MIDI clip and write notes you can edit, keep or roll again. Every demo on this page plays the exact notes the tools wrote.
Acid Line (Classic), Techno Drums (Detroit) and Chord Stabs (Dub) at 128 BPM. Sounds: our own 303-style, 808/909-style and poly synth engines.
Pick a tool, press Apply, turn a dial.
Each tool follows the clip's scale and time selection, and rewrites the notes as you turn a dial. The same Seed always gives the same result, and Dice rolls a new one.
303-style basslines with accents and slides. Accents come out at velocity 127 and slides as overlapping notes, so any mono synth with legato glide plays them the way a 303 would.
With 313 Techno Drums underneath. Orange notes are normal, amber are accents, silver lines are slides.
Techno, electro and breaks patterns for any Drum Rack. Notes land on the standard pads, so an 808 or 909 kit plays them with no mapping.
Detroit and deep-house chord stabs built from the clip's scale, voiced so each chord moves smoothly into the next.
With Techno Drums (Dub style) underneath. Chord memory keeps one minor 9 shape and moves it with the progression.
Select any notes (a bassline, a melody, even chords) and turn them into a 303-style line: one note at a time, on the grid, short gates, accents and slides.
Same riff, played on keys (before) and through 313 Acidify into our 303-style engine (after).
A minute to install. Nothing else to buy.
Unzip and copy the "MIDI Tools" folder into your User Library (Live: Settings > Library shows where it is).
Click the Generate or Transform tab under the clip and pick a 313 tool from the list at the top.
Apply writes notes into the time selection. Turn a dial and the notes update; Live's undo takes you back.

Before you ask.
Live 12 Suite, or Live 12 Standard with the Max for Live add-on. MIDI Tools arrived in Live 12, so Live 11 can't run them, and Live 12 Intro can't load Max for Live devices.
No. Max for Live comes with Live 12 Suite (and with the add-on for Standard). The tools are ordinary .amxd files.
They're built for one kind of music. Acid Line writes accents and slides the way a 303 plays them, Techno Drums writes whole grooves with fills for a standard Drum Rack, Chord Stabs voices Detroit and dub chords so they move smoothly, and Acidify turns notes you already played into an acid line. Try Acid Line free and judge for yourself.
Yes. The notes the tools write and the music you make are yours, royalty-free, with no credit required.
Our own synth engines: a 303-style bass synth, an 808/909-style drum machine and a poly synth. The notes come straight from the tools' own code, the same code that runs inside the .amxd files.
We haven't tested Push 3 standalone yet, and Move doesn't run Max for Live. For now, treat them as Live 12 on a computer.

Tell us your Live version, which tool, and what you clicked. A screenshot of the Max Console helps most (click the device's edit button, then Window > Max Console). We reply by email.
